With most planners being self employed and many from companies of less than 5 staff, industry kids don’t usually have a “work” or company Xmas Party. Enter Carolyn Luscombe President of Eclectic Events Intl. When her son was 5-months old when she conceived this idea to start an Annual Event Kids Xmas Party and the rest as they say is all candy canes and ice cream.
“ When I think back on Christmas as a young child, I fondly remember the few parties I got to go to at my Dad and Grandpa's work and they were truly the best Christmas memories I have.” Says Luscombe.

“I knew it was settled – my child, and the every other event industry kid would have a Christmas party to call their own from here on in.”

The first step was to actually obtain sponsors that were willing to   assist in the production of the event.  She didn't want Eclectic to make a profit on the event she just wanted it to be affordable and cost effective.  Atlantis Pavilions (Dynamic Hospitality Group) were the first to come   on board. Not only did they donate the space, they came back with an  incredible menu for kids and adults at the a cost of $15.00 pp.

When she first ran the concept by several industry colleagues, The response was overwhelming and just gave Carolyn the confidence to forge ahead with this now annual event.
Carolyn adds “The team work and sense of camaraderie among industry colleagues never ceases to amaze me – with so many kind hearts and willing hands, it is so nice to be on their team.”

Carolyn and her team tried hard to gain the support of industry associations, however were told it was against many of their internal policies to promote the event to their members.
“CEP Magazine and ISES Toronto were gracious enough to came on board to promote the event and with their help we got the word out.”|

The 1st Annual Event & Meeting Industry Children’s Christmas Party was held on December 20, 2009 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and was attended by over 100 guests.
