The Fermenting Cellar

The Fermenting Cellar of the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery, originally constructed in 1859 on what was then Toronto’s waterfront, has now been transformed into the most unique event platform in the GTA. Located in the critically acclaimed Distillery Historic District, a national historic site and the most important heritage destination in Canada, this flagship venue hold up to 600 people for a stand up licensed event, to a maximum of 400 people for a seated dinner in a breathtaking Industrial chic setting. From the heavy timber beams and trusses to the original Kingston limestone walls, the Fermenting Cellar offers your event a memorable atmosphere.

The Distillery is located in Toronto’s downtown core minutes away from Toronto’s financial district and has become the premiere site to hold an event in Toronto. There are many reasons, beginning with the truly magical setting. One of Ontario’s hottest tourist attractions, The Distillery District is an internationally acclaimed 13-acre village of brick-lined streets and dozens of vibrantly restored Victorian Industrial buildings. And pedestrian-only, means no cars to spoil the magic (but plenty of parking is nearby).

Within this enchanted village you can choose from a full range of unique event venues, from small intimate spaces to breathtaking industrial chic settings with 35 foot ceilings. Many clients come back year after year so that they can experience different venues to hold their events.

You can expect superior standards of quality throughout every aspect of your event, with no detail left to question. One aspect which stands out in particular at The Distillery is the food. If you have ever eaten at any of our award winning restaurants, you know that the food and service is extraordinary. You will enjoy the exceptional experience of our fine dining restaurants at any event.

Their goal is for you to enjoy 100% peace-of-mind from the beginning of the planning process right through to the moment when your final guest leaves your event. To ensure this, you’ll even have an on-site event manager to supervise your event from start to finish. And you will be pleasantly surprised by how affordable it will be to hold your event at The Distillery.

TBC Teams Up With the Parlour for a Roaring Good Time

Toronto’s newest downtown hotspot, The Parlour opened its doors this past fall with the help of the famously popular social networking group, Toronto Business Casual. The opening of the venue with its Roaring Twenties themes embodied everything the venue is about; timeless sophistication and elegance catering to “socialites seeking habitual enlightenment.”
The Parlour, located in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district, is a newly established 20’s theme lounge. It is a place that embraces “style, music, art and fashion” and “a destination for those seeking refuge from the main,” as stated by GM Rebecca Anderson. The venue transports you back to a sexy 1920’s speakeasy, where a night of pleasure awaits. The space, a dimly lit enviroscape with glass chandeliers hanging from the ceiling is plush with vintage velvet furniture in deep jewel tones providing comfort and style for the patrons.
The event was themed to the nines with staff dressed in 1920’s attire – dark sexy corsets and feathered head piece’s for the ladies while the men dress up in dress shirts, ties, vests and stylish bower hats. Food and cocktails were a collaborative effort between The Parlour, Maker’s Mark, and TBC. The chef of The Parlour devised a tasting menu that included such things as shaved roast tenderloin with Dijon Aioli, cucumber watercress tea sandwiches with lemon aioli, and wild mushroom caps with citrus crab mousse. Three complimentary signature cocktails were concocted with help of Maker’s Mark and included a delicious Bourbon Float, a fresh Mint Julep Bourbon Cocktail, and a traditional Bourbon Sour. A mixologist from Maker’s Mark was in attendance to provide a bit of education to the guests for anyone interested in mixology.

Founded by Tanya May, TBC has been in existence for the last 2 ½ years and boasts an impressive 4800 members. With a mission to be “classy yet unpretentious”, this inclusive social club unites young, urban professionals “who are busy with their careers” and who are looking to have a unique social experience “that they wouldn’t have time to organize on their own.” The events allow for great networking opportunities for those who are settled in their careers and who are also in a transition in their life. May, who is a warm, charismatic, and dedicated leader with a genuine passion and love for uniting people and for her organization, ensures members feel a sense of community and that each guest sincerely enjoys their time at every event.
To market this wonderful event, Toronto Business Casual used social media outlets such as their company website, Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, and several blogging sites such as blogTO and 49st.

Intl Center Joins in Foodstock

This fall the International Centre’s own Executive Chef Joseph Levesque and Director of Operations and Sustainability Trevor Lui proudly participated in Foodstock, an outdoor pay-what-you-can public food event to help raise funds and awareness to stop the proposed construction of a mega quarry in the Melancthon Township, a rural community 110 kilometers northeast of Toronto.

Held on Bill and Diane French’s Farm in Honeywood, Ontario and lead by Chef Michael Stadtlander, Foodstock featured local fare from over 100 of the best chefs from across Canada including International Centre Executive Chef Joseph Levesque. Each Chef was responsible for preparing one hearty gourmet dish showcasing the local produce that stands to be lost from the Melancthon Township. With his barbecue expertise, Chef Levesque served over 3000 portions of Ontario smoked pulled-pork in his own signature barbecue sauce; only a fraction of the reported 28,000 plus Ontarians who braved cold, wet and muddy conditions to dine and have their voices heard.

“I am extremely proud to have been part of such a monumental event” said Chef Levesque. “Not only was it an honour to cook for so many people but also to be in the company of such a collection of talented chefs. It is incredibly important to bring awareness to the protection of our natural resources. Much of the produce used at the International Centre is locally grown, and to take that much fertile land away would be devastating for Ontario farmers and residents.”

With over 28,000 supporters in attendance, donating and celebrating local food, Foodstock raised over $100,000 towards establishing awareness about the proposed mega quarry. Food revellers not only enjoyed a vast variety of cuisine but were also delighted by supporters from the entertainment industry with performances by musicians Sarah Harmer, Jim Cuddy and Ron Sexsmith.

“Foodstock was a celebration and there were no elements that could have stopped either supporters or chef participants from displaying our passion for local food,” said Trevor Lui. “It was an honour to be present amongst such passionate people and other great chefs like Michael Stadtlander, Jamie Kennedy and JP Challet. We promote local and seasonal food sourcing to hundreds of our events and thousands of our clients at the International Centre, Chef Levesque and I both know how important this day was for our future.”

Hockley Valley Resort- You Can Have it All

Tina Kessler, canadianspecialevents.com, OnSite Reporter

Where can you get a year-round resort destination ideal for corporate and private events with a golf course, ski runs, spa and authentic gourmet cuisine in the heart of a picturesque countryside away from the hustle and bustle of the city? Hockley Valley Resort.

Located in the Hills of Headwaters, only an hour’s drive from downtown Toronto, Hockley Valley Resort recently underwent a $5 million transformation which includes a two-acre fruit and vegetable garden, three new restaurants and a strong commitment to local fare. The 300-acre resort has year-round appeal, featuring 104 luxury rooms and suites, 14 meeting rooms, an 18-hole golf course, 15 scenic ski and snowboard runs and a 8,000 sq ft. European inspired full-service spa.

I had the pleasure of attending a fam tour of Hockley Valley Resort on May 24th 2011 along with 4 meeting and event planning professionals. As we toured the resort, checking out the meeting rooms with state-of-the-art on-site AV, modern guestrooms and suites, luxurious spa and the fabulous restaurants I was impressed by its uniqueness and versatility.

At Hockley Valley Resort, they’ve got corporate event packages down to an art. They’re the perfect mix of business and pleasure with bright and functional meeting rooms with great views, delicious corporate menus and teambuilding activities such as mini Olympics, snowshoe expeditions and group golf events. The possibilities for events at Hockley Valley Resort are endless. No matter what time of year, whether corporate or private, intimate or large Hockley Valley Resort has it all.

I have to admit, I’m a total foodie. So lunch at Tavola, the chef’s table with seating for up to 14 people and a view into the kitchen was the perfect way to conclude our tour. Prepared by executive chef Rabii Jaouhari and restaurant chef Daniel Mezzolo, our dining experience featured asparagus and porcini mushroom risotto with speck and brie cream and a dessert tray of pistachio crème brûlée, raspberry mousse with Limoncello foam and vanilla lemon cake served on a warm cedar plank and was a feast for the senses. But don’t just take my word for it; the walls of the kitchen speak for themselves. It’s become a tradition for guests to sign a wall in the kitchen to show their appreciation. Whether you’re looking for large dinner for up to 180 or a private dinner for two in the wine cellar, you’ll find culinary excellence at Hockley Valley Resort.

Hockley Valley Resort is the kind of venue that inspires events; where you constantly reach for your notebook to jot down your visions before you get distracted by another great idea. You owe it to your client, and yourself to choose Hockley Valley Resort.
I didn’t come to Hockley Valley Resort looking for a venue to host a specific event, but I left with a smile on my face and a notebook full of inspiration.
