I’ve always been drawn to stories of resilience and the pursuit of authenticity. Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Shanee Silver, Co-Owner and Head of Events at Heart Space Events. Her journey resonated deeply with me, not just because of the challenges she faced, but because of her commitment to building a space where joy, connection, and inclusivity are at the forefront. Shanee’s story is one of stepping away from environments that didn’t nurture her creative spirit and forging a path where both she and others could truly thrive. Here’s what she shared about why she started Heart Space, the values that drive their mission, and what’s next for this inspiring venture.
JK: Why did you start Heart Space?
SS: “We both experienced industries that can be toxic more often than not, but we were still doing the work we loved,” Shanee explains. “We wanted to show up for ourselves and lead a more authentic path. Heart Space was created with a shared intention to create moments of connection for others. For Lindsey, that’s through her passion for food. For myself, it’s about creating spaces that evoke joy through a shared experience.”
JK: What’s the message behind your why?
SS: “We live in a society that still creates stigma, barriers, and limitations for people who are different. Having a disability does not make one incapable of achieving their dreams. In fact, often we have to be innovative and flexible to find new solutions to accomplish our goals. We have to give ourselves grace, believe in ourselves, and trust that we can succeed. But having the support of our communities and professional industries can make a huge difference in how that success is achieved. I’d remind everyone to open their hearts to others and start or continue the path of accepting people’s differences.”
JK: Where are you going?
SS: “We will go as far as our hearts will take us. Event activations are not limited to food-based experiences. We just have to take the time to sit with the growing pains and find the paths where our passion calls and creativity sparks.”
My 2cents
Quality of life has become a pillar for many event professionals, especially in the wake of the pandemic. This same desire is within all of us and begins by creating spaces, experiences, and events that welcome people across the spectrum of race, sexuality, gender, neurodiversity, or whomever they choose to love or worship. It’s about creating environments where people feel seen, understood, and connected.
Final Thoughts
Heart Space Events embodies this vision, proving that when we prioritize human connection and inclusivity, we create not just events, but transformative experiences. Shanee and Lindsey are not just building a business; they’re cultivating a community where everyone feels they belong—a true testament to the power of leading with heart.
