Total Events faced a challenge producing Oliver’s Bar Mitzvah: solving Mom’s vision for a beautiful sit-down dinner at the shul while meeting Oliver’s hope for an epic basketball-themed celebration. Their solution? A masterful blend of sophistication and fun that left guests, and especially Oliver, delighted.
To avoid the typical, cheesy sports-themed elements, Total Events took a fresh approach. They transformed the venue with a Nike-inspired merch shop and a VIP basketball kids’ lounge, creating a sleek, modern aesthetic that elevated the theme. Staged on the venue’s built-in platform, the setup flipped the room’s layout, putting Oliver in the spotlight with a non-traditional, striking design that immediately impressed the guests.
One of the standout features was a hidden storage box beneath a clear Plexi walkway, containing 200 custom-branded basketballs. Guests were guided down this lit path, leading to the merch shop, where later in the night, the box was revealed, allowing guests to take home their own branded basketball—a clever, stylish memento of the evening.
Upon reaching the merch shop, kids found themselves in a space reminiscent of a high-end Nike store. The shop was stocked with hats, backpacks, dry-fit shirts, jerseys, and hoodies, all of which could be custom-branded with exclusive screen-printed designs created for the event. The shop’s walls were adorned with tone-on-tone 3D dye-cut “OG” logos, cleverly playing on Oliver’s initials, while giant, backlit images of Oliver added a personal and polished touch, perfectly aligning with the upscale sports theme.
The kids’ lounge, filled with sleek black furniture and custom OG-logo pillows, was seamlessly integrated with the adult supper club area. The latter featured all-black velour decor, lush floral arrangements, and subtly lit table tops, achieving a refined, intimate vibe despite the 300+ guest count—an impressive feat of design and coordination that didn’t go unnoticed.
Central to the event’s ambiance was a performance stage with a large LED backdrop, displaying a dynamic mix of custom VJ content, meaningful family photos, scenic videos of Israel, and IMAG (live cam) for Oliver’s grand entrance. This visual spectacle celebrated Oliver’s milestone but also deeply connected the guests to the family’s story, adding a personal and emotional layer to the night.
To balance tradition with the evening’s modern flair, Total Events introduced a custom frosted plexiglass Mahitza, a movable partition that allowed for traditional Jewish dancing with subtle separation. Later, it was easily rolled away to make room for modern dancing, ensuring that the event honoured the family’s values while fully embracing the celebratory spirit.
Set against the elegant backdrop of Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, and with entertainment by Joey Necomb flown in from NYC, the event was a true testament to the creative skill of Total Events, led by producer Maria Librado. The collaboration of various vendors, from Fleurs des Jardins’ stunning floral arrangements to Luxe Rentals’ sleek furnishings, culminated in a night that was nothing short of spectacular. The family’s feedback said it all.
“Magical night” and “Above and beyond,” they shared in an email right after the event. Days later, they added, “People still can’t stop talking about the bar mitzvah, and the best part is we surpassed Oliver’s expectations—and by now you know what a great challenge that is.”
