Thrive Youth Development Canada’s 2024 Anti-Gala was a night where art, music, and community came together to celebrate young leaders and support the future of youth programming. Held at Steam Whistle Brewery, and produced by hala inc., the Anti-Gala shattered the mould of traditional fundraising events, trading formal dinners for interactive experiences and unforgettable performances.
From the moment guests arrived, the venue buzzed with energy. Steam Whistle’s industrial charm, with its exposed brick and historic architecture, set the perfect stage for an event themed around graffiti and creative expression. A huge shoutout to the incredible team at hala inc. for flawlessly orchestrating every detail—from behind-the-scenes logistics to seamless on-site execution. Their expertise ensured everything flowed effortlessly, creating an unforgettable experience for all.
At the heart of the Anti-Gala was its purpose: to raise critical funds for Thrive Youth Development Canada, a non-profit that fosters safe spaces where young people can explore their creativity, develop confidence, and build a foundation for positive change in their lives and communities. The evening also honoured exceptional young leaders, recognizing the impact of their work and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
Food Dudes crafted an indulgent lineup of food stations, offering everything from fresh seafood to tacos and made-to-order pasta. Guests moved freely between the interactive stations, creating a casual, social atmosphere that made dining an experience in itself.
Throughout the night, attendees explored multiple themed rooms packed with hands-on activations. The Culinary & Performing Arts Room inside Steam Whistle Kitchen was a hub of creativity. Guests tried their hand at sushi-making with Roll This Way Sushi, unleashed their comedic side in an improv workshop, satisfied their sweet tooth at a candy bar, and enjoyed handcrafted cocktails and mocktails.
The Live & Visual Arts Room in Pilsner Hall was an artistic playground. UpMade WasteNot hosted an upcycling workshop where guests created custom picture frames, while Drumin.ca led a lively drumming circle. Attendees also tried mandala dot painting facilitated by Little Eclipses, crafted personalized bookmarks to take home, and contributed to a stunning collaborative live art piece.
Meanwhile, the main action unfolded in Locomotive Hall, where entertainment took center stage. Abbey Road Entertainment delivered a high-energy games lounge featuring ping pong, air hockey, and foosball, while Photo Booth TO captured memories with a dynamic 360-photo booth. A VIP area provided an exclusive space for top event sponsors, complete with a unique caricature sketch activation by Toongoons Art that added a personalized touch.
As the evening continued, the energy peaked with an electrifying live performance by Soular Band, who had the crowd moving with their signature sound. But the real stars of the night were the Thrive Youth Leadership Award recipients: Maya Hatamiaghdam, Gabe Hodgins, Ira Zlomynoha, Maya Quiroz-Pham, and Northbridge Thrive Award recipient, Nayab Malik. Their achievements and dedication to making a difference were at the core of why this event mattered.
None of this would have been possible without the generous support of event partners and vendors who brought the Anti-Gala to life. Quest AV ensured every sound and visual element was flawless, while dedicated partners collaborated to create the stunning decor, lighting, and activations.
The 2024 Anti-Gala was a testament to the power of community, creativity, and collaboration. It showcased the best of what happens when people come together to support a cause, all while delivering an unforgettable experience. A huge thank you to Thrive Youth Development Canada, hala inc. and the incredible sponsors, workshop hosts, and vendors who made it all happen. Until next year!
