Scratch Experience, LOFT Entertainment, and Seeing Red Media delivered one of the year’s most impactful cultural moments with Runway of Rezilience, which won the 2025 Canadian Event Award for Best Cultural Event. Held at Toronto’s historic Casa Loma, the evening was a powerful showcase of Indigenous creativity, resilience, and presence.
Guests entered through the Seeing Red step-and-repeat before moving across the castle grounds for a reception featuring gourmet Indigenous cuisine, specialty cocktails, and guided tours. As the program began, Notorious Cree opened with a performance that immediately grounded the night in cultural appreciation and artistic strength. Seeing Red Media founder Bryan Porter welcomed guests, followed by host Michaella Montana, who carried the program with clarity and respect.

The runway showcased collections from leading Indigenous designers — Lesley Hampton, Tisha Thompson, Queen Ribbon Designs, Delina White, Bitterwater for Roadhouse, and Helen Oro Designs, presented by Indigenous models in a fashion program that blended heritage, innovation, and identity. The emotional highlight was a live performance by Tia Wood, whose presence on the runway left the room visibly moved.
Well-known Indigenous figures highlighted the event’s importance, including Tantoo Cardinal, Eagle Blackbird, Nathalie Restoule, Shina Nova, Autumn Peltier, Michelle Chubb, Jeremiah Manitopyes (Drezus), and Shayla Stonechild. Music by DJ Kookum, Notorious Cree, and Tia Wood added depth and cultural significance, while Chef Zach Keeshig, Chapman’s, and Chef Tawnya Brant presented a menu rooted in Indigenous tradition and artistry.

For many attendees, the night held a deeper meaning. It marked one of the first times Indigenous people experienced Casa Loma as a space that fully welcomed, reflected, and honoured them, a meaningful shift given the venue’s history. Runway of Rezilience was crafted intentionally as a celebration of identity, reclamation, and representation, connecting past and present through fashion, performance, and community.
Behind the scenes, organizers focused on cultural protocol, accessibility, and sustainability. Consultations with Indigenous artists, designers, elders, and cultural advisors shaped the event’s structure. Accessibility efforts, inclusive programming, eco-friendly materials, ethical fashion practices, and locally sourced Indigenous catering reflected community values. Volunteers, including Indigenous youth, played vital roles in guest services, backstage coordination, and cultural storytelling.

Runway of Rezilience was a defining cultural moment, a gathering that honoured Indigenous excellence, amplified Indigenous voices, and created space for stories that have long deserved to be centred. It was a powerful and well-deserved winner of Best Cultural Event at the 2025 Canadian Event Awards.
