Bright Lights Windsor

Nominated for Best Outdoor Event, Bright Lights Windsor by The City of Windsor displays a world of celebrations and creates lifelong memories.

Bright Lights Windsor 2021, welcomed over 100,000 guests to “create memories that last a lifetime.” Bright Lights Windsor is more than a holiday lights show it is an opportunity for our community to come together under the unifying theme of light, which is shared across the holiday traditions of countless cultures and faiths around the world. From candles to illuminated trees, from family fireplaces to the lights that shine in our neighbourhoods. Light symbolizes warmth, peace and togetherness around the world. So, in a city renowned for its multiculturalism, the symbol of light is a perfect fit.

The event provided a free, family-friendly, accessible opportunity for a community renowned for its multiculturalism, to come together – enjoy stunning lights, vendors market, performances and support multiple charities in unique ways.

The event featured 2 km of pathways with over 2 million lights, 50 unique displays, and 12 multicultural displays highlighting different religious and cultural lighting in their “Peace & Love Around the World.” At the centre, the 64-foot tree was adorned with over 1.5 million energy-efficient multi-coloured lights that danced to choreographed music heard throughout the park.

47 different food and artisan vendors participated in the WE Made It: Holiday Market. This was a free opportunity provided to small businesses during a time many vendors were not able to open their brick-and-mortar locations due to the ongoing pandemic.

In addition to the lights and the market, a priority of the event was to provide local community organizations and charities with a unique opportunity to raise funds or build awareness. 2021 welcomed onsite food drives, clothing collections, hot chocolate sales and kettle campaigns. Through a partnership with Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Foundation, they launched the “YQG Hearts for Hope” campaign. This exciting display included four magnetic walls that were placed near the lighting word HOPE under a large tent. Guests were able to purchase a heart for a $5 donation, decorate it with a message of hope and display it on the wall. These walls are now placed in local hospitals for staff to see the messages of support. Over $10,000 was raised for charities in 2021.
