This past spring, the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society hosted the inaugural Mayor’s Charity Ball at the new Cascades Casino Delta. Led by Joel Woznikoski, the event was a great success, raising over $600,000 to support the Delta Firefighters Healthy Snack Program. This initiative, launched in 2021, ensures that nearly 1,500 local kids get the nutrition they need every day; fueling their learning, growth, and potential without the burden of hunger.
Lux Affairs transformed the venue into an elegant, unforgettable experience complete with a classic red-carpet entrance, flanked by a fire truck of course, and setting the tone for an evening that was polished and full of purpose. After a lively reception, the main room revealed sleek lighting and rich fabrics that added an air of sophistication, keeping the balance between celebration and charity.
The purpose of the event was to support the Healthy Snack Program, a volunteer-run initiative funded by firefighter payroll deductions and generous community donations. Every dollar raised goes directly to the program, which delivers snacks to schools across Delta at no cost to students or schools. Off-duty firefighters handle everything from purchasing to delivering the food, ensuring that kids get the help they need without any stigma attached.
Throughout the evening, video presentations highlighted the program’s impact on the community, keeping the spotlight on what matters; feeding kids, and changing lives. Beyond the impressive fundraising total, the true success was in how the community came together to support such a vital cause. The combination of sponsors, volunteers, and partners made it clear: this program is making a real difference.
And this is just the beginning. With ongoing support, the Delta Firefighters Healthy Snack Program will continue to fuel change, ensuring that no child in Delta goes hungry and every student has the chance to thrive.
